All About Me!

Philosophy Of Education

My teaching philosophy is one that strives to develop and educate the whole child. The African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child", characterizes my belief that it is only through the effort of the entire community that we can teach and reach our children and encourage them to grow both inwardly and outwardly. I believe that we should meet each child where they are and nurture the insatiable curiosity that all youth have to explore and discover the world around them.
I am a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, where I completed my undergraduate degree and started my Graduate work. I was an honor graduate, Academic All-American and All-American in Football. I then received an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship for excellence in sports and academics. Later I was offered a Professional Football Contract with the Toronto Argonauts and moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where I live off and on for a period of four years. I later returned to the States where I continued my graduate work in Biology with an emphasis in diabetic research. I also was in the US Navy and served in the 1st Gulf War.
My passion is science, football, and tennis in addition to teaching Physical science, I was one of the Salem Middle School Football coaches in The DeKalb County School District, and founder of the Salem Middle School Janice B. Fluker Memorial Outdoor Classroom Gardens and Gardens Club. I  also was a part of the Salem Middle School's mentoring program and sponsored a spring flag football league with faculty mentors and student mentees. In 2013 I was named as the Salem Middle School's STEM coordinator and chairman of the Salem STEM Co-hort committee. Salem Middle was selected as one of the DeKalb County middle school's to start the Georgia state STEM initiative to become one of or the first STEM certified middle school in the State. This was an exciting and rewarding opportunity for me to serve our students, parents, and business community with a 21th Century curriculum that prepares them for the ever changing and challenging new job markets. I am now in my second year as a teacher at the great Eddie White Academy. I am one of the football coaches, and one of the mentors for the Men of Eddie White Academy mentoring program. I also am the Transformation 2.0 Instructional Technologies representative for our school in the Clayton County District. I am a fan favorite of integrating technologies and STEM into the classroom and intend to share and lead within the Eddie White Academy faculty and community. I also intend to start up the Eddie White Academy Community garden Project in conjunction with the cafeteria staff and partnership with the Love Joy Community Garden. I will be seeking students, parents, and community volunteers. I just down right believe that this village, our village will succeed because we all care and will be there for each other!
